What I need done:
1) A custom PHP layer developed that can be supported by XOOPS or Drupal.
2) To merge some Java code into the PHP platform.
What I need:
This is an existing site that is need of an overhaul. The site was originally developed in PHP and was developed and hosted by the same company. I have the PHP code but it was run on top of a custom PHP layer. They relied heavily on a header/footer approach which means a lot of the existing code should be usable, I just need a custom layer developed in order to use it. Both XOOPS and Drupal match their custom layer feature-for-feature.
In addition, I need some Java merged into this new PHP site. I bought another site and the developer has failed to merge the two. The Java site is a java based web-app running on Tomcat. It uses java beans to encompass business logic and jsp pages to display the HTML. I need someone to translate from one technology to another in order for everything to run on a consolidated PHP platform.
Other context/requirements that providers will need to know:
We have fallen off the face of the search engine Earth. The Java developer made the site so secure it could not be crawled. That needs to be remedied and the site SEO'd.
Specific expertise that I am seeking:
You should have experience in PHP and Java. Whether we run XOOPS or Drupal is open to discussion. Experience with search engine optimization is an added plus.
Assets I have in place:
I have a technical architect/project manager the chosen developer will be dealing with directly.
The Java developer is readily accessible and willing to do what needs to be done to make this transition
A new dedicated server and support staff
Graphic artists already in place
The Java and PHP code as well as the databases
Timeframe for delivery:
The sooner the better.
The goal to all of this is to have the site possess the best qualities of both technologies. The original PHP site had banner management, traffic reporting, forums, a calendar, RSS feeds, payment gateway and was subscriber managed. The current JSP site does not possess these features other than the calendar. It does however have better image handling module and nationwide directories which the original PHP site did not.
Ultimately, once this site is done correctly, it will used as a template for other variations of it aimed at other demographics. A family-friendly version and upscale version of it are planned as well. A lot of the content on the current site will be removed and placed on these other domains. I have multiple domains I am wanting to use the same technology on and it be a matter of reskinning the site and modifying the directories to suit these other sites.
I am aware that getting the site(s) SEO'd takes time. I just need to make sure it can be crawled and that the keywords and metatags are coded properly.
The most critical item for me at this point is the stand-up and launch of a PHP based site that incorporates two top level requirements:
- An extremely rapid deployment of a single PHP-based site branded BloodaPalooza
- An architecture that supports the ability to quickly online new sites with distinct branding and centralized administration.
To this end, I have been suggesting that an open-source product such as XOOPS or Drupal would be the best way to arrive at the functional requirements I have outlined, and in the least amount of time.
Based on my limited experience with these tools, I would offer a solution similar to this:
- Install a middleware PHP-based open source product. (based on the PHP resource's expert opinion) I own the hardware and OS layer. Our target is a Linux system running the recent versions of Apache, PHP and MySQL.
- Obtain OOB (Out Of the Box) modules for Calendar, Forums, CMS, etc. Each component should support the ability to classify content/data by a "category"
- Modify the source to filter by category.
- Use the Apache name-based plug-in in order to translate URLs to specific branches/categories of the site, therefore preserving unique brand.
- Branding would be primarily by "re-skinning" the framework. This would include branded images, styles sheets, etc. This may also occasionally require unique functionality not intended for the global framework.
- The initial site would filter on "BloodaPalooza"
- Migration of content and functionality from an existing Java/JSP based site.
- Administration should be designed such that non-technical resources can add content and data through web 2.0 type applications.
This is certainly a lot to consider. It may be best to talk by phone. What are your available hours? The initial hand-off will be very important. We wish to deploy an initial architecture that will scale regionally, state-wide and then perhaps globally. Unfortunately, I have some constraints regarding availability. Depending on your location, "off-hour" discussions may be required.
Of course, we eventually need to discuss work breakdown and how your company would operate and bill, but it's most import that you and/or your associates are comfortable with the approach and that you have experience in this arena.

I need some recommendations and help with a site that I need to develop.
I need to create/program a pretty high end site that will offer training courses to customers. Customers will need to pay for whichever training module they want and then login to that class, watch the training and take the quiz.
We have Power Point presentations of the trainings and are thinking of picking up the Articulate.com software to convert the presentations into interactive trainings and quizzes.
Is Articulate the best software for this part? Best Value? I have heard good things about it, but would always like to explore other options.
For a Course Management System (CMS) I have seen Moodle.org which looks pretty awesome. I am just wondering if this CMS works in conjunction with the Articulate creations or if there is a better alternative.
Also, is there anything else that would be needed as part of the overall project?
I can go into a lot more details of the project with anyone who is familiar with this type of set-up. I prefer to work with someone local on this project and it could lead to long term business.

I am looking for someone to write me a simple screen scraper. I have a site that houses lyrics information in mind. The script should programmatically traverse the alphabetical artist listings for the site. For each artist page, there will be one or more song items. For each song page encountered, the screen scraper will dump the html contents of the page to a local file (text only). The local file name will be the same as the web file name. The script should be intelligent enough to run multiple times, and recognize if a file already exist locally, and if so not to save it again. The script should save the local files in alphabetical directories to prevent any one directory from containing too many files
Part 2 (file parser and dumper)
The second part of the project is to write a script that will go through all the local files present, parse out the relevant info (artist, song, lyrics, etc), and dump that info into a table. (If you recommend a table software MS or MySQL that would work best here I would be happy to get it.) The script should be intelligent enough to work multiple times over the same dataset and recognize when an entry is already in the database or is brand new.
Additionally I should mention that I am not a programmer and may need some explaining on any additional software I will need in order to make this work, as well as instructions on what I will need to do to make your work function properly. Please reach out to me with any questions.

Ive got a couple of sites that are all done and ready to go. i started a construction firm so that I can employ some out of work friends of mine (I know, im a sucker) and I need them to get onto top page of google for:
Seattle painter, Seattle painting, Kirkland Painters, etc....
www.northwestpainter.com and www.northwestrodentcontrol.com is the rodent site for a friend.
Now, I do not build crappy sites like these! But for a construction company you don't want a flashy site. I have been using SEO geeks from India for years, but my geek actually got into a car accident! So he is out, and I am looking for a new geek.
